THE BRIEF

Through the efforts of Putrajaya Holdings (PjH), the city of Putrajaya is primed to be an iconic metropolis of the region.

The goal is to first develop its identity as a culturally and technologically expressive community from the ground up. Only then can it begin to mature as an intelligent garden city, spurred by the richness of connectivity today envisioned when the city first emerged over 20 years ago.

THE LOGO CONCEPT

KITA as a project translates to mean we/us. The name is used to denote a relational, communal, and inclusive meaning at first glance. The expanded form of KITA — Komuniti (Community), Interaksi (Interaction), Tetangga (Neighbourhood), Akses (Access) — lends more clarity to the details of its mission.

The logo takes on a form possessing likeness to construction materials, with colors that are simultaneously earnest and offbeat.

Altogether the elements of the logo express an imaginative personality characterized by a mix of free form and geometrical shapes infused with playful hues.

PROJECT KITA

KITA is the placemaking approach to nurturing the local identity of Putrajaya at the grassroots level. What started as an initiative to gain a nuanced understanding of the community has grown into a project to improve its livability focused on everyday ‘city at eye level’ experiences.

While ongoing efforts are promising, prototype events have helped KITA learn how to more closely engage with the local community, namely events with consistent success in the Klang Valley:

The birth of the KITA branding began with a simple wordmark logo with the hashtag #sesamakita to signify togetherness. The theme of building is evident from the wordmark animation that takes life as if from the sketch of an architectural draftsman.

While the architectural concept of the logo persisted, the KITA brand soon evolved to adopt a more lively expression, conveyed by whimsical colors and playful movements, signifying energy in creative movement

The style of KITA is meant to add a lighthearted energy to its productions, and an example of it’s applied form is this vox pop montage that outlines the general sentiment of the Putrajaya community (residents and visitors) toward their city.
